it’s all about the journey…

back to the original plan

Filed under my life by sherriknits at 2:04 pm on May 15 2007

I spent all day yesterday sitting on my couch recovering from this bug.  I couldn’t knit on the shawl because my brain just wasn’t there.  I started fooling around with the new sock yarn.  I went from this:

(sorry for the blur, I guess I wasn’t really looking at how clear it was)

to this:

to this:

and back to the picture above it (yet to happen).  I am going to wind it into a nicer ball and start over.  I don’t feel like I wasted my time because I didn’t feel good anyway and would have just been watching some silly thing on tv.  The problem with the 2 starts is they were just too big.  I have to find something with a smaller pattern stitch.  I know it’s hard to see that there is even a pattern there on the last picture but it was one I found in More Sensational Knitted Socks.  I was having a hard time sticking with the line I was supposed to be on because I don’t have any of that handy dandy highlighting tape at home and I was quite all the way there yesterday.

Remember that I started using lifelines in my shawl?  Well, this is how I found it right before we took off on our day trip on Mother’s Day.  (I have to say I am glad I saw it….but then if I’d used it and never saw it I’d never know anyway!  lol)

Creative use of yarn by your son!!! Thanks for your comment on my blog. And, thanks for not telling my professor!!! We were thrilled that a member of our knitting group got the blanket. Nancy might give it to her 16 year old son, who is also a knitter, and who loves the blanket!! He has loved it through all of its progress and he will appreciate it as well. Of course, the blanket will stay in the house and will probably not go away to college!! We are still stunned by how many tickets we sold. People really liked the blanket–and they were thrilled with its relationship to our church building which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This month a new addition has begun and long needed repairs to the historic structure mean that it will be closed as well for a period of time. Therefore, the timing was good for the blanket!

Looks like we have similar sock “issues”.

Hopefully my restart will make a better fitting sock. Hope yours turns out well too.

Hey, yarn boogers! Hehe. Mom’s sock did the same thing this weekend, so you’re not alone.

I think it was the best decision you could have made to frog the sock and start over – there’s no use in continuing when you don’t feel perfectly fine with it. This second start now seems perfect to me though – I can see the pattern, and the colors are gorgeous! Good luck with knitting it up – I’m sure you won’t have any more problems this time!
And I totally adore this pic of your boy, how cute and fun!

Wow, a new of using yarn … up the nose!

Good luck with the socks, and it is great that your attitude is so positive about the experience in spite of the troubles.

    Best,
