it’s all about the journey…

grateful to be alive

Edited one hour after this was posted to add to the drama of the day.  It appears our bottom element in our oven burned out and hubby concocted a way to cook pizza for one small boy who was expecting it…we had a fire in the oven and we had quite the time to get the smoke alarm to turn off.  What do we do?  Go to bed and start again tomorrow?   lol

We had therapy today and on the way up, we hit a deer.  Hours later, I am still nauseated.  The daughter was driving and her fiance was in the front. My head was buried in my afghan book when I heard him calling her name .  He saw it coming, she didn’t.  He was on the phone and thought she’d seen it.  I am so proud of her.  She hit the brakes hard but didn’t swerve at all.  When my head came up to see what was happening, the deer was directly in front of us but we came out of it with a small dent in the driver side front.  There were cars both beside us and behind us and how we didn’t end up in a big accident I have to say was God’s protection.  We pulled over and then I started to realize how close we came to tragedy and when I called hubby, I kind of fell apart.  I am so, so sad to say we don’t think the deer made it.  I am so sorry to have to report that but it just came out of nowhere as they do.  We called 911 to see what to do but they said there was nothing we could do.  :(

We did end up going for therapy and I’m glad.  Hubby called about half an hour later to see how we were and asked to talk to the little guy and I was so blessed to hear him calmly asking questions to make sure he was ok.  He seemed to understand what had happened.  The thing that really scared me was he got out of the car on the freeway side, he doesn’t understand to be careful, he just wanted to see what was going on.  I was so glad hubby thought to call and talk to him, though.

Ok..I need to move on.  He had fun at therapy today.  We’re working on life skills.

He hates this part but was happy to show the fiance what he does.

And he got to show what he does outside, too.

When we got back into town, I ran into the shop and grabbed the new colors that came in for my afghan.  I’ll see if I can settle down enough to knit tonight, probably I’ll pick an easy square tonight.  I did start on one on the way up but am not sure it’s the one I want to work on right now.

Oh!!! I am so happy that you are all safe and unharmed!! How terrifying!
It’s incredible how God guides us and protects us during those times -I remember when I hit a deer, it was a similar situation. I was driving and it was bumper to bumper traffic in the morning and the deer picked my car to jump in front of…Somehow I found myself parked on the side of the road and I don’t know quite how it happened!
So happy to know that you are all safe at home now!

I am happy to hear that everyone is safe. Why do these things always seem to happen on a Monday! I’m glad it wasn’t raining!
I love the new afghan colors, can’t wait to buy more!

So glad everyone, except the deer, is ok. I’ve had two run-ins with deer and both times the deer died. In one, the car also died; in the other the car was seriously wounded but recovered with help from the repair shop. No one was injured in either event.

I’m so thankful you are all safe!! That must have been scary. I know that they can even total a car.

I love seeing how your family all cares for the Imp. It’s neat to see what he does in therapy.

My store was out of the afghan books. I have most of them in the back issues of the magazines but it’s kind of a pain to go through and find them. What yarn is that? The colors look nice.

I am so very thankful all is well. I will have to log on again and see the pics. ASD5 wireless is open for some reason tonight, so I can get on, but not see any pics.
Had to catch up on the posts I have missed. Can’t wait to start on my afgan Thrusday.

Sheri, thank heaven your all ok. I know just what it must feel like as a few years ago we had a moose run out in front of us. Thank heaven my husband was at the wheel and the moose just ran across the road and not towards us. To this day I can still see those big eyes staring at us.

This is such a tough time of year with deer running across the roads, same with squirrels. I am so thankful I saw a male and female pair of deer the other day in time to stop and let them cross safely. I am so sorry for your experience. Car damage is often very extensive so you were indeed blessed that day.

    beautiful heathery afghan colors! ;-}

Oh my gosh, Sherri, how horrible this must have been for you all! Where I live, deers running across roads is a very common occurance, especially at this time of year - but one can’t ever be prepared for it, never. They just jump out from the woods and everything happens so fast that there’s basically no time left to think or act. Your daughter did the perfect thing, actually her way to react must have prevented something worse happening - you have every right to be proud of her. I’m so, so relieved that everyone is safe and nothing happened to you all - and I’m so sorry that you had to go through this experience!
