I think it is good that he is involved in the process...this helps all kids,not just special needs. I can see why you gave up on it before...just one more struggle and you have to choose your battles. Remember to pray too. Scoliosis runs in my family, and my nephew would not wear his brace and wound up having back surgery. That story scared my daughter into wearing her brace.
