the little imp and his endearing ways

Posted by sherriknits

Well, I was going to post some pictures tonight, but realized it just shouldn’t be.  We have been working on invitations.  By we, I mean the bride…lol…but I was going to start helping her address them tonight but there isn’t any list in sight and she isn’t home.  I realized I had better not be showing what they look like anyway.  They are cute…she designed them herself.  And her little work table is cute, too.  We also have the table centerpieces kind of done (the practice ones) but I shouldn’t show those either.  The imp is not in the mood for a photo session altho I am on his good list right now because I bought him Bee Movie yesterday.  If you recall, in November we had our “date” at the movies when the rest of the family abandoned us to go to a conference.  (no, I’m not still feeling left out)

I forgot my knitting at work tonight, that was my plan for the evening, probably one of my last times to get to leisurely hang out knitting for a few weeks.

The imp and I are the only ones here tonight.  The hubby is doing the sermon at church this Sunday so is at his office studying.  Everyone else is off doing their own thing.  I was trying to watch a program earlier and when the program change came up, up pops this screen that says the vcr is set to start recording and it gives all these instructions.  We don’t even have a vcr hooked up to this tv.  Hubby was on the phone with me and was trying to explain what to do, but I didn’t get it…so he came home and got rid of all of that stuff.  The tv by then had changed to the imp’s chosen channel.  Let me tell you…this kiddo is driving us nuts in this department.  We had to upgrade ($1.20 a month or something like that) to the lowest level of digital tv so that we could have the tv guide channel a few months ago…and this kiddo has figured out how to order movies on pay-per-view in spite of all of the security we have put on there.  I don’t even have a clue how to get where he gets…and in his tinkering around to get around passwords, he adds passwords to other channels.  We have had to have the cable company clear our boxes more than once.  It is getting embarrassing.  Thankfully hubby knows them through his job.  We need to find out if they can offer any kind of solution to us…it is getting expensive and ridiculous.  We know we’re not your every day situation.  That little stinker is sooooo smart when it comes to electronics and while we always try to have the same expectation out of him that we would any child … we also realize it *isn’t* the same…BUT disobedience is disobedience.  ugh.

Hmmmm, I should try to think of something positive to end this on.  Hmmmmm.

lol…. I’m still sitting here.  Well, let’s just say he makes me smile in many other ways and I’m sure as soon as this gets posted, I’ll think of a million of them.  I’ll just leave you with an old picture that always makes me laugh when I remember how he startled me the day I turned around and saw this.

it was a productive day!

I re-knit the shrug and I think it’s a go!  I don’t have the bride here to try it on her after it is off the needles but I tried it against her when it was halfway finished.  She really liked it.  She also really likes the first one and I think that one is definitely fixable.

Here’s the new look.

310shrug

Last Friday and Saturday, I worked with some new sock yarn.  The first try, I was just doing a generic sock but it looked a little plain so when I got my new books at B&N, I started the sock over.  I really like just adding a few purl stitches here and there.  It’s called the dot stitch and wow did it make a difference!

I never got dressed today.  It was rainy and windy all day so I just stayed in sweats and knit.  It was my day off and just what I needed before another busy week.  Next week my day off will be filled with therapy for a little imp and then fitting for tuxedos.  We think we finally found a place to purchase brown tuxedos for the imp and the grooms two little brothers, though.  I would much rather because it is much cheaper, even if we have to buy a new shirt to go with it.  (isn’t that so strange?)  I’m glad I got one more down day before we are full-time wedding mode.  Yikes.

Tonight, the sun is trying to fool us…

I do believe it is supposed to be sunny tomorrow, though.

If I get a chance to sew in the sleeves, I’ll be back later.

new shrug option

Posted by sherriknits

To be honest, I think playing with this shrug is just what I need these days.  It’s really been fun for me.  I got a new book the other night and have been trying different lace patterns out of it.  I learned very quickly that the British use different abbreviations.  A yf is not just bringing the yarn in front…which makes a k afterwards impossible to do.  It’s a yarn over!  I’m thankful for internet!  I found the answer in no time at all after I kept ending up with way too few stitches at the end of the row and could NOT find a pattern that didn’t use that silly stitch!

Anyway, I went down 2 needle sizes and left off the ribbing on the new attempt.  My only concern is that it may roll, but it isn’t showing any signs of it at this point.  I’m thinking keeping the same stitch count and going down in needle size …and then perhaps not wet blocking…will keep it from ending up way too big.  The yarn is fingering weight, TwinkleToes by Chameleon Colorworks and I really like working with it.  I got a 2nd hank in the mail Saturday.  I should have way more than enough.

And on the non-knitting front, hubby was eating ice cream tonight and I asked him what there was to eat for one who didn’t want ice cream and look what was coming into the room right at that moment.

39kk

Yep, the Krispy Kreme delivery imp…who was not one bit inclined to want a picture taken!

Evidently, dad and the imp saw 2 different fundraisers yesterday.  They bought from the first and then when they went to get haircuts, they saw another.  The girls offered the imp a cap in spite of the fact that they weren’t going to buy any more.  Well, they had to come back to the mall a little later for their hair appointment and ended up buying a second box because the girls were so nice!  So tonight, he thought we might need a donut delivery!

the shrug that may or may not be

Posted by sherriknits

Well, I re-blocked the shrug but I am not sure it is going to be what we want.  It is definitely smaller but still big.  I am giving myself a few days to ponder it and I think it will definitely be something she wears, but maybe not for the big day.  We like it, but we liked it better before we blocked.  It was such a fast knit that I am wondering whether I would just be better off to just re-do it.

Here’s where we were before blocking (but the thing that I didn’t like then is how uneven the lace looked from stretching it this way and that.  The other thing that seemed a little weird to me is that the color changed a little bit…it seemed to take on a blue tinge.  I think it was still a good color, though.

33shrug

33shrugsleeve

We liked where the sleeve fell before and I had considered doing a simple edge on it but she wasn’t sure she wanted that.  Now the sleeve is longer.  It’s so hard to figure out where it is all going to end up on something like this.  Not disheartened here, though…this was fun.

Tonight was date night and we had a nice Italian dinner and then went to the pet store for a co-worker to buy doggy toys, then to Barnes and Noble where I found 2 new books.  I actually bought them and plan to order some for the shop.  I purchased them because I wanted to knit out of them.

37knit

I ripped out the cuff of a sock I started this afternoon because I didn’t like it and started one of the stitch patterns in the book…I think I really like it.

And we ended up having some visitors sitting next to us in the cafe.

(the bride and groom to be)

At this moment, hubby was walking around the store talking to my FIL regarding the re-naming of the fire station in his honor.  We are still so proud.  Evidently at practice the other night, however, they had to take trucks out to some meeting and someone had left the hood unlatched on the tanker he was driving alone and the hood flopped down and the lights were straight down on the highway.  I think they won’t let that happen again.  lol

Off to bed…work tomorrow.  My lunch and the doggy toys are safe in my car for tomorrow.  (I’m trusting it is cold enough outside to warrant leaving my food out there so I won’t run off and forget it like I always do.

Oh…tomorrow I will show you the cute sheep I bought at Safeway today.  Every spring their floral department gets in some kind of sheep and I always have to get them for the shop.  They’re really cute this year!

an even littler hello…

Posted by sherriknits

No pictures of the shrug tonight…I blocked it and now it is too big.  I am re-blocking it and if that doesn’t work, well…I will pull out a few rows, me-thinks.  Not sure if that is the right solution, though, because I am not sure we want the back any narrower.  Me must think on it for awhile.  I kinda think I don’t want to knit it again.

I got a bazillion skeins of sock yarn in the shop yesterday and am still working on getting it on the shelf between customers and friends coming to visit.  I brought a ball of yarn home today to play around with a little bit on a pattern that the Dip Lady steered me towards on Ravelry.  Pictures soon.

The bride and I rented “Becoming Jane” the other day and I knit, she worked in her invitations while we watched it.  I’m not sure what I thought of it to be honest.  There were a few things that could have been left out.  There were some confusing parts that we didn’t figure out until we’d watched it the 3rd time….it was rather comical when one of us would finally say “who in the world is that?” and the other one was wondering the same thing.  It’s like you can’t connect who some of the people are.  But on the other hand, I love Jane Austen and most things connected to her so there were definitely parts I enjoyed also.  We even looked up Tom LeFroy on Wikipedia to see if he was real (he was).  It was fun.  the other funny part of watching it is that we finally had to put the captioning on because we couldn’t understand what they were saying too much of the time.  All in all, we had a fun afternoon and the next morning when we watched it the 3rd time.

Hubby and I just went for a short walk and I’ll be headed to bed as soon as one little imp gets finished with his ice cream.

Hopefully something more fun to report tomorrow!

just a little hello…

Posted by sherriknits

I am exhausted and heading to bed but just wanted to pop in and say hi.

I found out some really great news the other day.  My FIL was given a huge honor and I am so proud of him.  He is a volunteer fire fighter in a small country station.  I can’t remember for how long, but we’ve been married for 33 years and he’d been doing it for a long time then.  Well, they re-named their firestation from the community name to his name!

grandpafirestation

That’s not his name, I distorted it…but how cool is that????

Now here’s the funny story about that picture.  I asked him to run to the station and take a picture and then I’d help him get it to his computer and sent to me so I could see.  (Isn’t that a funny place that they put the sign?)

Well, he called me when they left home and said to stand by.  I said to take one with his phone, too…just in case.  Well, he called me back and it took exactly 1 hr 28 min. to help him get the picture from his camera to his computer to his email!  Then I resized it and sent it back to him so he could forward it on to whoever he wanted to.  I also helped him get it onto his messenger display picture.  I could be a tech support person after that call!  lol   We had a good time with it, though…and I have to give him credit, he does pretty well at explaining what he’s looking at so I can help.

But back to the fire station.. isn’t that cool?  He said the upper-ups said they don’t name stations after living people when his own station contacted the powers that be.  They realized, though, that these guys were going to do it anyway…so they let them do it.  (I asked if they’d have to kill him now! . . . heaven forbid!)

On the knitting front, I finished knitting the bride’s shrug, it is blocking right now.  Hopefully pictures to come soon.  She likes it!!!!

Sunday, day of rest

Posted by sherriknits

I should be taking a nap, told hubby I was going to…and I plan to.

Sleep has been a little better but last night I woke up to a “pop! pop! pop! …. pop!”  We don’t know what it was but it sounded like gunfire or backfire but we heard no car.  Hubby wondered if it was some kind of fireworks but didn’t see anything out the window.  All I know is that my heart about pounded out of my chest when I woke up.  The neighborhood stayed peaceful and only the bride and I seemed bothered by it.  Thankfully, I fell back to sleep.

I forgot that today was our turn to do the bulletins at church and it was only the little imp and I since the *whole* family other than us was up on the worship team.  He did the best he has ever done.  In his desire for independence, he stood way out away from me and people just naturally went straight to him.  I was treated to many smiles and giggles as people walked by me with their bulletins.  Sometimes he just can’t get those things handed out quick enough and people tend to not see him.  I was blessed.  He went to the cupboard by himself and got an usher tag and I guess he was ‘on duty’.  They let him pass out the candy to new visitors on the week we do bulletins so he was Mr. Big today.  :)

I’ve been working on the shrug…in no time at all, I have this.

31shrug

I only stopped so I could try it on her to see if it was the right width.  (skinny little girl that she is)  I think it’s going to be really cute.

Mary asked me if we had lilacs in bloom so I thought I’d show her the bush.  It’s in the neighbor’s yard and I don’t know what it is, but it looks just like this most of the year.

31bush

and a close up

31blooms

That looks like bleeding hearts, doesn’t it.

Anyway…I am going to go try to take a nap.  The kids got their apartment this weekend and the groom is staying there now.  I am not sure if we’ll be called in to help them move some of his things in.  It’s close to here and I thought of him last night when I heard the popping.  Gosh, kids all over town any more.
