Sittin’ with my dad at Stitch n Pitch ~ Aug 2008

The thing about being Tyler’s dad is……you have to remember ….he is going to do everything I do almost all of the time:  Cross his legs the same, lean on the wall the same…fall asleep on the couch with hands folded the same and on and on.

Tyler can watch a movie and the next time through it he knows the parts and turns his back to the TV (so he is using the same motions and the same hands as the people on the movie) and just acts out parts .Usually with scary accuracy.

At work, (I work in a local cable TV Studio) he takes the time (and sometimes starts when all of the equipment is off) turns on the computer Live VT-5 video switcher, 3 cameras, TVs and the sound board and sets up a table on the set, turns on the lights, aims the camera so he can see himself in the monitor and acts out hosting the What’s Going On Here? program. He is more concerned with having fluent conversation going than using actual words all the time but I am convinced that he knows exactly what he is saying all of the time. One time he said, “…and now Tyler on drums” and set up another shot and went over and played on the music set.

He likes to open and close the show and hear the music come on to cue him that its time to go…..so if I catch him in there I will play the song just to get him to say “that’s all” or whatever to close.

We go the music store where Don and Chloe say “Hey Kenny. Hi Tyler” when we walk in. Tyler sits down very carefully with a new guitar. I haven’t had to buy one unexpectedly yet and hope I don’t ever have to. He is careful and respects a good instrument but it is a little scary in an out of town store where they don’t know us.
He puts on the headphones and tries out the effects pedal display.

Tyler would really love to play music in the band or do a TV show or star in High School Musical. I don’t think he knows he knows he is even different from other “typical” kids most of the time and thinks if he just practices enough he will get do do it. He truly makes a joyful noise unto the Lord with a pure heart. I believe God is pleased with his heart of worship.

I get a call from Rebecca about 3:45 every afternoon (3 days a week) to ask what to do with Tyler as she finishes at 4 watching him those afternoons.I have changed those days to focus on him more so I don’t get stressed trying to do something while he is busy making a mess in another room. We go home and play with the dog, or go the Music Store or Home Depot or drive out to the church to set things up or pick up a guitar.

Tyler keeps me smiling and glad I am alive. He is totally honest and 100 percent trusting and innocently believes whatever I tell him so……I have to be careful that I keep doing and saying the right things so he imitates his dad and learns good things because it is very hard to unlearn if he picks up a bad attitude or phrase ( if I ever would demonstrate one of those to him.)

This is just one little of this complex little fellow who God blessed us with.

edited to add: we spent all evening trying to get a video of his self-directed and produced video but ran into technical difficulties so it will be posted tomorrow.
