stitch n pitch!

Posted by sherriknits

We left our vacation spot for a day and drove 3 1/2 hours to go to the game in Seattle. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a lower attended game, but we had a blast just the same. We met Kyle, Rhianna and Mayah there. They were the only ones available this year, but the other kids all went to a game the same week so our family had the Mariner’s covered. Two of those three games, the Mariners won….ours was not the one. We still had fun….in spite of the fact that our seats were in the very last row. Now tell me, why is it that when you are looking at a stadium full of empty seats and you ask for the best seats available, you would end up in the last row???? I don’t know if anyone remembers my fear of heights issue, but I have found I can do those seats ok if I look at my feet when I am on the steps. lol

Anyway, here is a highlight of our evening. Ribbit enjoyed himself a lot.

IMG_0586

We saw his cousin sitting on one of the shop tables out in the area where there were a lot of yarn stores set up. To be honest, I think our Mr. Ribbit was pretty good looking.

He sat between Kenny and I while we waited for the kids to get there.

Here they come! You can see how steep the stairs are.

Little Missy.

IMG_0597

She’s pretty excited with her new trick of clapping and thought it was pretty cool that the people all around us knew the same trick.

IMG_0598

See those girls behind? She flirted with them all evening.

game over.

Ok, this was too funny. Tyler was in rare form. He had so much fun and was so funny. He’s either totally in to posing or full of “moooooooooooooooom” if I ask him to stand still. When I took this picture, there were a bunch of people waiting to come down the stairs and they were cracking up at his pose.

We had a great time. There was construction near the stadium making it hard to get back to the freeway. We followed signs forever and ended up in a pretty creepy area, wondering if we’d missed a sign….saw one, made the turn where it said to and ended up in a very bumpy dirt parking lot…full of potholes. Kenny tried to drive through it but we could tell it let to another really bad parking lot so we turned around and got back on the road until we found another sign that brought us all the way back to where we’d been but we managed to see the street we needed. What’s funny about this is that Ben and Brittany did the same thing the night before!!!

We got to our house at 12:30, got out of the car and in to the Jeep and continued on to the RV park, got there at 2! It was worth it, though.

checking in….

It’s been a busy week. We started out at Kenny’s class reunion in Lincoln City. It was fun for me to watch him reminisce with old friends.

There was another little boy with Down Syndrome and there was a great guy (husband of a classmate) who played frisbee with the two boys for a long time. At some point, Joel (the other little boy) asked me to come play with them. I said no, thanks….and he looked at me so intently and said “I want you to….” . We had the conversation several times, lol.

We then left LC and headed up the coast. We can’t drive by the Tillamook Cheese Factory without stopping for ice cream. Watch for Tyler and Kenny when they are up for their turn. Tyler just gets so excited about his vanilla ice cream!

Another highlight is the tunnel. I did try to get a little bit of the beauty of Neahkahnie Mountain but it was way too jiggly and way too loud to include.

We’ve visited Astoria a few times and went through the maritme museum there…it was so interesting. I’d love to do some reading about the area now that we did that. It’s funny that we can live so close to such a great river and take it for granted. I learned a lot and plan to do a little more research on it.

Here’s a glimpse of our adventures!

Yesterday we went to Stitch n Pitch in Seattle. Maybe I’ll get a chance to post about that later today…we got home at 2 and I was up until 4!!!

I had 2 goals for our week off….go to the game and see Julie and Julia. Unfortunately, the movie isn’t playing anywhere near us, I guess we’ll have to go find it one of these days soon, I hear it’s hilarious!

Ok, not the best quality, but I’m learning. Here’s our trip, literally over the river and through the woods….we went to visit the grandparents. I have another I’d like to add but it takes half the day to upload on the connection we’ve got here.

We also got a little bit of the first birthday party! One of these days I’ll learn not to use the same music. lol

vacation!

This month has been craziness!

Last week we celebrated Missy Mayah’s first birthday. A year of grandparenthood…..a good thing! There is really nothing like it.

IMG_0529

I’m writing this as we are in transit so don’t have access to my pictures until we get hooked up. It was a fun time had by all. She really wasn’t thrilled when it came to the cake part but her daddy worked with her a little and she came around!

I finished her little sweater, it’s too big right now but that’s a good thing. I forgot to take pictures and then when I had both the sweater and the little miss back in my presence, she was wearing her tutu that Rebecca made for her. lol

IMG_0576

We then headed south to Kenny’s class reunion. I had planned on going to the evening event but we had found out that there would be a tour of the high school and then he’d go on to the evening event. It seemed too long to leave Tyler in his parent’s care since he’s in his not-answering stage and we didn’t want to cause them to have a stressful evening. I’m sad in a way, but I’m also thinking it was good for Kenny to get to visit with friends and not feel chained to me. I get really shy in social events like this, especially when I don’t know many people.

Tyler and i got to go to dinner, though, with Grandma and Grandpa and I always enjoy spending time with them.

Yesterday was the picnic with his classmates. One of them owns a piece of property that is just perfect for a big event. It’s right across the street from the ocean, but you drive down a little lane and when you park and walk into the clearing, here is this beautiful setting, surrounded by trees. We had a good time. Kenny’s parents came, too. How cool is this that they were the only parents there and before they got there at least a dozen people asked when they were coming!

I found someone to sit with and we enjoyed watching the classmates visit. I like seeing Kenny in his roots.

There is another family who has a son with down syndrome, she and I have talked over the years. Tyler and he had a GREAT time playing together and one of the spouses took time to play frisbee with them for a looooong time.

All in all, we got too much sun, had a good time and came home tired.

IMG_0584

Before we left his parents’ home, we watched a dvd featuring the fire department my father-in-law has been part of for over 40 years. (do you recall that they named his station after him last year?) I was very touched by it, especially the feature story on their department visiting their sister station in New York City. We were all pretty full of emotion. He gave me the dvd and I will watch it. Since we, too, were involved in caring for people in NYC after September 11, it’s very close to our hearts.

And now we head to our next adventure. We’re just going to the same park we often go to on the coast. When Kenny called to see if they had any openings, they booked us and said, “Tyler stays for free.” The goodness of others is so touching, especially as we are adjusting to this new phase of our lives. It struck us a bit weird that at our age, we sometimes miss out on things because child-care is not always easy. :)

Tomorrow, or soon, I will put some videos on from my new Flip video….pretty cool!

It seems like a month since I posted. I feel next to normal now….or getting there.

Friday after the wedding, we got to go to a Mariner’s game and it was so much fun….the company was the best! I cannot remember which branch of the military was there that night, I knew once. Anyway, look how they came in with the flags!

IMG_0462

IMG_0466

There was a bunch of them but it was just too awesome to watch.

IMG_0467

Perfect landing.

IMG_0468

And then the jet flew over very low.

It was so cool.

The game was great. I can’t believe I didn’t take any pictures of the 4 of us, or at least the other 3. Becky and i were having so much fun playing w/our phones, updating facebook. hmmmm

We were behind most of the game. It was only a week and a half ago but I can’t remember any more. Lots of people left, I’m so glad Dino and Becky didn’t want to.

I did, however, thoroughly enjoy watching the family right in front of us.

IMG_0479

They had 2 boys and were clearly season ticket holders. They all had their gloves, they know the people around them, they watch the game live on a psp. I enjoyed it. They all seemed to be having tons of fun together.

We went to watch the bottom half of the 11th inning near an exit…and guess what happened!

IMG_0481

Score! We won!

I had a sweet visit from a little friend the other day. She came in with her grandma and they both had hand knit shawls on.

IMG_0492

Last time I saw her, she brought me cookies. This time she wondered where they were and seemed genuinely surprised that I had eaten them. She would steal your heart in an instant.

And I finally got to spend my Swagbucks. I had accrued $75 worth!!! i also had birthday money so look what I got!

IMG_0493

right out of the package.

It’s charging now so I haven’t gotten to use it but we are going to little miss Mayah’s birthday party tonight so it should be ready and put to use then and then I’m sure you’ll be seeing some action shots!

IMG_0495

I hate to sound like a broken record but you really should try SB. Because I also had birthday money, this camera cost me $8.35 out of pocket and I got the one day shipping besides!

At first those SB seemed to be accruing very slowly but once it took off, it seems like I’m always getting up to 45 and converting them to $5 Amazon cards and then can put the cards into my Amazon account. Amazing!

wedding rehearsal and dinner

Posted by sherriknits

Well, it’s over and I have a daughter-in-law! The wedding was beautiful and everything went so smoothly.

In spite of the 100 degree heat much of the week, we all survived. I went to Olympia on one of the hottest days to get the bridesmaids dresses and thankfully was in the air condioned car most of the time. I actually went to the mall there and got my nails done hoping for air conditioning there since I didn’t think I’d find that in the local salons. (no air condioning but at least I wasn’t overheated to start with).

Here’s a little look at the rehearsal and dinner as well as wedding prep.
