I didn’t get a lot of knitting time in today.  I had a huge project at work (thanks, Bunni, for the help!) and then tonight I spent too much time on Ravelry.  I volunteered to help out with the LYS database and ended up in a chat with Casey and Jessica for a little while.  How fun was that?  (take my word for it, it was.)

I did get a little done on the Lucky Lurker sock.  I got up past the afterthought heel mark but one teeny little section about an inch back got off on the pattern and even thought I tried to drop down and fix it, it just looked bad so I tore it out.  No big deal, am almost back to the heel area again.

Sorry for the poor photo, it’s late and the lighting wasn’t great.  I am loving this yarn and I think Angi does a great job.

Had a funny experience with the smoothie this morning.

I opened the freezer to get the bag of bananas I froze the other day.  I pulled out a ziploc bag and thought…this does not look right!  It was FISH!  (and I have no idea when we put those in there!)  I looked all over and no bananas.  I finally looked in the refrigerator and after much confusion, I finally found them in one of the drawers and they were all soupy.  hmmmm.  I refroze them but I bet I don’t use them because they will just be a block of yuck.  (the smoothie was good, though!)

This is just par for the course with me….

At knit night the other night, my friend brought in socks she had knit with scraps of all her sock yarns.  I could not believe how cool they are.  She used Trekking, Opal, Step (I think), and Tofutsies.  We all were so amazed at how well the colors blended.  Gosh, if I ever coveted a pair of socks, these would be it.

Most of us all immediately started wondering what we had in our own stashes!  :)

I spent my entire day at work trying to get my old computer set up so i don’t have to take my laptop there and back every day.  I am not very gifted when it comes to hooking up anything electronic…I can use my computer just fine, but I am so lost doing any setting up.  Hubby didn’t have time and told me to just follow the colors.  I did get it running in no time, but for some odd reason, all of the usb ports have quit working.  I took #1 son there tonight and we took it all apart and couldn’t figure anything out.  He checked all the drivers and all of the stuff I don’t understand.  We went to Staples twice and finally got online with an ethernet cable but now I have no working printer and I do need the usb port.  I did a search and found a few more things to try but I didn’t really enjoy having my whole day shot.

I am so excited.  I joined a sock club and got my first yarn today.  I’m not going to put pictures here until people start getting their yarn.  People were wondering on Ravelry and since I’m close to where the yarn comes from,  it was probably only mailed yesterday.

Tonight at home, I was wondering why I didn’t wind it at work so I undid the hank and had it hanging off my arm and got excited about the Mariner’s coming from behind (and winning!) and as hubby walked thru the door, I was telling him and the dog came running in and put his head straight through the hank of yarn!  I ended up with a bunch of it all tangled and hanging loose!  My dear hubby held out his arms when I looked at him and we got it wound with almost no trouble.  I don’t recommend doing it when the Mariner’s are doing one of their coming from way behind, though.  He kept scolding me for not paying attention!  All is well now and I will re-wind it tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Friday and date night and I am so ready!

Did you do anything fun to celebrate Independence Day?

It was a busy day for us, mostly because I wanted to go to Macy’s for their one-day sale and it gave hubby the perfect reason to go to Guitar Center.  We drove up the freeway in the Jeep with the top off, my hair was just lovely by the time we got back home.  lol  The kids were jammed in the back seat.

This was actually after we left Macy’s.  Let me tell you…we had quite the time loading our stuff in the jeep!  Hubby got some super bargains, not too big, at Guitar Center, the kids got some stuff at Ross…and I made a haul at Macy’s.  We had to stuff things in everywhere we could.

Look what I got!

Those are all serving dishes.  It was because I got this from daughter’s boyfriend.

I told him I’d never have had to go spend all that money if he hadn’t gotten me started.  lol  Nah…I’m a shopper and I knew the sale was coming.

I also got the last color I really wanted.  I think it’s called Plum.

Excuse the dust but they all come out of the box this way and hubby wanted to get going while I was trying to take the picture.  He never complains, but thinks it’s a bit silly.

On the way home from shopping, we drove out to our favorite place.  The kids had never been there, mostly cuz all we ever do is park and look at the water.  Today we walked down on the dock and sat awhile.

Mom, could you please just hurry?

I thought I’d get a picture looking back up towards land….and someone popped in the picture.  I never liked having my picture taken like my kids do!

We couldn’t go home without having a snack.  (the little imp could live on ice cream)

Now to the knitting.

I bought myself a new book and am having fun reading through it.  A friend took a class in Bohus Stickning and I have obsessed over wanting to learn it ever since I saw her cuffs she made.

Last night, I was getting ready to go to bed and I thought…hmmm, I haven’t knit on my stole all day, maybe I’ll just knit one row over and one back.  Wellllllll…..I ended up knitting several, and then dropping a stitch and couldn’t find it so I had to go back to my lifeline, which was in there some wonky way.  I had to go back 2 more rows from that and then, obsessed as I am, I had to knit back up a few rows.  I was rather upset at myself for even starting it so late.

This morning, I got up early and spent some time on the porch rocking and knitting.  As I was knitting, I saw a mistake way back where the lifeline was.  I knew I had gotten off and just did a cheat fix because I couldn’t see where the problem was.  After I knit about an inch and a half, it was very clear where it got off even though the specific place didn’t show.  I kept knitting and convincing myself it was ok.  I could learn to block in a way that it wouldn’t be so noticable (and it wouldn’t have been to anyone but me anyway).  I just couldn’t see going back.

I sat down to knit after our afternoon venture and wouldn’t you know it?  I came to a stitch that I could not figure out what happened.  I’ve seen a few of those and haven’t figured out if it is an uncompleted stitch or what….  after I tried the next pattern row, I realized it was off so I started tinking back.  Well, you know how sometimes the mistake just keeps going with you?  I finally decided (after getting quite frustrated) to just frog back to the lifeline and fix that other error.  It is a pain trying to get this yarn back on the needles from the lifeline.  It is white and the yarn is vanilla.  I learned my lesson a long time ago and don’t use a color on white.  Since I got it back on the needles, I have now gone back 2 or 3 rows trying to find the error that was already there (I knew that it happened the row before the lifeline and kick myself for not putting that lifeline in when I told myself to…the row BEFORE the error).

So, this is what it looked like when hubby is impatiently patiently standing there waiting to go to the bride and groom’s house (they’re on their honeymoon still) to watch fireworks.

It is a little smaller than that right now.  I spent the time while waiting for the fireworks to start trying to roll the yarn back up.  Hubby was scolding me for doing it in the semi-dark after I got a knot and had to break the yarn.  Arrrggghh.  I can’t seem to learn some lessons.

I do know I will be happier with this when I get going again..even though I was only a few rows from being done with clue 1.  :(

I got a really cute gift from a friend yesterday.

They are stitch markers and they say:  I believe … Harmony … Wisdom … and an ice cream cone.  I love them and it’s fun to have something that makes you think about that person who blessed you.

And now…I leave you with a few pictures of the honeymooners.  Take note of the tree that they are passing … she flies by on the top and he is well below it.  She got to do this in Costa Rica last November and loved it so much.  They’re having a great time.  Might as well, when they get home…life begins.

They actually have a lot to look forward to…she’s always known she’d be married to a youth pastor.  They have great things ahead of them.

Happy 4th!

One of these days I might learn.  At least I’m enjoying playing with my new yarn and beads so I wasn’t too terribly heartbroken at having to start over when I realized I was not following directions.  My yarn came today for my Mystery Stole 3.   My first attempt, which got frogged, I forgot that only the right side of the pattern showed on the chart.  I know better than that, but I got about 8 rows into the pattern and was really thinking it was not very attractive when I realized I was not knitting it right.   I got a good start the 2nd time, but although I could see the lace pattern, it still looked a bit jumbled.  As I was waiting for hubby to pump gas (date night!), I realized that rather than knit on the wrong side, I was supposed to k2, p to last 2, k2.  I am not at all sure why I thought it said k on all the wrong side rows.  I was pretty excited that I wasn’t going to have to purl all those long rows!  I also had another problem of every few rows having an extra stitch, which I just k2 tog at the last of the row.  It was definitely causing the pattern to look a bit off.  When I started over tonight, I still had the problem and sat staring that the chart for several minutes when it dawned on me that in the center stitch every few rows, it said to s1 k2tog psso and I had read it as s1 k1 psso.  I thought it was odd, especially that they used the ^ , which I knew meant to k2tog in there.

Soooooo, I am now on track and LOVING what I’m seeing.   When I purl the wrong side, it really makes the beads show up a lot more.  I think I like bead knitting so far.  It is slower, but I think it’s worth it!  I wish they showed in the pictures.  I didn’t get a chance to try in daylight since my camera battery was dead today.

This morning I got to go to breakfast to celebrate my friend’s and my birthday.  Hers was Wednesday and mine is this coming Monday.  Another friend takes us out to celebrate both at once.  We had a great time and I was stuffed for most of the day.

While I was at breakfast, I got a call from another dear friend who said she was leaving her laptop off at my shop for me to use until mine gets back.  I can’t imagine having no need for my laptop until September like she doesn’t need hers, but I am totally blessed by the offer.  I spent an hour at least trying to get it hooked to internet because I had to get it hooked to the dsl modem and I didn’t have my “welcome letter” that I got years ago when I got the modem.  I had to call tech support and they got me up and running, but it was’t an easy process.  I was getting mighty tired of crawling under my desk to read things to him from the modem!

The newlyweds headed off on their honeymoon today and I thought they were pretty cute if you ask me.  When they get home, real life starts.  I have to chuckle because I only got a one night honeymoon!  These kids will be home a week from tomorrow, but they were offered the use of a timeshare and bought the package that covers all food the whole time.  I’m excited for them…but I told the bride not to talk to strangers.  haha.  She said she has to since her new hubby doesn’t speak Spanish and she is the one who has to communicate.

I am trying not to stay up all night working on my mystery knitting, but I started a load of clothes and forgot to shut the lid on the washer so I have to wait to switch them to the dryer before I can go to bed.  It’s just too much fun!

ahhh, life

This morning I got up early and headed out of town to find ribbon for the jars for the flowers for the table.  lol  The bride and I found some really cool lantern type candleholders at JoAnn’s….and the great thing is that they were 60% off!

I then went to my sister’s house and we spent hours tying ribbons on jars.  I could not believe that we had almost exactly the amount of ribbon that we needed for the jars.  The last few, I use 3 strands of skinny ribbon on the big jars and they were cute.  We used lots of different kinds of ribbon.

I left there to race home so hubby could go to work for a short time.  I have spent hours and hours tonight trying to get my email configured on my home computer.  I think I mentioned that this computer is brand new.  No one will ever use Outlook Express but me anyway.  I had to talk to 2 tech support people to get help getting them configured.  I have forgotten so many of my passwords so I spent time getting them set up also.

I called to find out why I did not get my mailing label for my iPod.  Apparently they sent it, but I never got it.  Therefore, I get to wait another 24-48 hours to get another.  I am not a happy camper.  I called to ask them about that, then I asked if this was the number I talk to to get my laptop repaired.  lol   They had to send me to another number.  After I did everything the lady told me to do, she determined it needs to be sent in.  I had almost finished giving her all my info and the phone went dead on her end.  I waited awhile to see if she’d call back, I wonder why I thought she would.  I’m glad I wrote down the number so I didn’t have to call the iPod number again.  I got a guy who finished the call and I think the news isn’t that great after I told him the other issues I was having.  There is a good chance I can get my hard drive backed up before I send it in, though…and that is good news although I will have to pay for it.  It will save me months of work, though.  I hope I learned my lesson on backing things up!!!!  He said they may just replace my laptop, which does not thrill me in the least because it won’t be the same thing at all.  I am really bugged.  I think I want an Apple like my daughter’s.

I had a very long talk tonight with the mother of the groom.  My cell phone died while I was talking to her, though.  It doesn’t seem like my week when it comes to electronics!  I am the gadget girl and this is so amazing to me that I am having as much trouble as I am.

But…I can laugh and I can count my blessings!  And you know the cool thing that happened to me today?  A friend offered to pay for me to have tips put on my nails!  I have never done that before.  She just wanted to bless me.  I cry these days at the drop of a hat, mostly good tears.

No pictures today, I am too lazy to get down on the floor to attach my camera to the tower.   I might not get back up!

The tux~sock progress~Saturday sky~ :(

Well, today we finally made the trip to try on the tux for real.  It is on it’s way for alteration and to get the ivory shirt we had ordered.  Big brother went along and the little imp really loves to imitate.

He loves his new ’suit’

He worked hard at cooperating.  :)

Let’s see, what else is going on today.  I did lots of forward-backward-forward knitting on the sock.  I am ready to be doing something else, but I did start the heel flap tonight.

And the weather today?  I hope it changes by next weekend or we’re having an indoor wedding!

I came home from work and found this in the refrigerator.

It was just so colorful, I had to take a picture.

And now for the sad news.  Right now, I am on the new computer we got yesterday for my work.  That in itself is exciting but I had to find all my disks to get any photo editing software on here.  I also found the kids had not put any anti-virus on here so I did that, too.

But why am I on this one?  I left tonight for a short time to take the little imp to buy a Father’s Day card and when I came home, my laptop was DEAD!  Nothing I do will make it start.  It did this same thing when it was a few months old and they sent someone to fix it.  Now it is in the extended warrantee and I bet I get to send it to them now.  I did all kinds of bookkeeping today and I did not back up my work and to be honest, I can’t remember the last time I did.  Shame on me, I know.  I am so bummed out.  Do you realize how much stuff is locked inside your computer?  Not to mention I had to figure out how to get into my domain stuff since they give me a bizarre user name consisting of very random letters.  I can’t figure out how to get into my shop’s email so I’ll have to call them on that one.

And to add to it, I am really mad about my iPod.  They are in no rush to get my mailing label e-mailed to me so I can return the defective iPod they sent me.  I have been without it for over a week and whenever they decide to send me the label, I am looking at a week’s wait.  So much for the quick turnaround they told me about when I bought the extended warrantee on that one.  I use my iPod to fall asleep to, I have pretty big sleep problems and have found listening to books is the ticket for me.  I finally had to resort to the Ambien the doctor gave me months ago.  I do not like taking sleeping pills at all and was so happy with the solution I had found.

I am just a bit melancholy tonight, but I need to step back and count my blessings.  I know I have a lot to be thankful for and I need to choose to look at those things instead.

At least I started knitting on the sock instead of playing with my laptop!  (although if the truth were to be known, I am pretty good at doing both at the same time!)   lol

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
