another hat

Posted by sherriknits

I am really wanting to work on my Francie sock, but I’ve kind of got the baby bug now.  Maybe I’ll get the current little hat done and then jump back and forth.

Here’s my progress…

It’s so soft and fuzzy.  I’ll try to get better pictures next time to show the back.  A friend suggested not binding off the 2 edges so the end result is a t-shape that is then seamed together…instead to knit those center stitches and on each side to purl 2 together joining the sides at the same time.  It worked great.  Right now it is back on the needles as I add the bottom edging.  There are little curlicues that go on the top of the hat at each side where the joins are.  If I can’t get that right, I’ll leave them off, but really would like to have them there.  The whole concept of the Itty Bitty Hat book is that for the first year, babies are seen from the top of the head down so the hats are designed to make the top of the hat cute.

We’re seeing baby move all the time.  Mama is looking so cute and Daddy is pretty thrilled to talk about baby.  Gotta love that.

I have one more picture I want to post of the first hat just so I have it without the shadows.

I got a fun present today but never got a chance to take a picture in the daylight so that will have to wait…but I have to say I have the best of friends.

The SP12 questionnaire was posted the other day and mine is now at the top of my page on a tab of it’s own so if you’re here for that, look up there.

I’ve been buried in bookwork and got no opportunity to knit today.  Right after I finished reconciling a bank statement this afternoon (that was refusing to be balanced), I got a chance to visit with 3 good friends, though and that was a great reward for sticking to my job.  I had a potluck to go to with hubby right after work and that was fun, too.  Mama and Papa-to-be were there and before we started our meeting, we had to make a guess as to what we all thought baby would be….evenly divided.  It’s fun that so many people are excited about it.

We’re going through some adjustment pangs with the little imp now that big sis just got married.  It will all work out but it’s very different.  We’ve always appreciated the help that our kids have been.  Today when I got to work, the new bride’s father-in-law happened to be there.  He was asking how it was going and I told him it’s been an adjustment.  I told him about a few of the incidents we’ve had but that it’s been good and the kids are all a big help even still.  He said it is nice to see a family functioning as you’d hope it would, that many families probably really don’t have what we have.  He said he knew his son (my new son-in-law) loves the imp as if he was his own brother.  We see it every day with all 3 of the kids and their chosen ones.  I cannot say enough how grateful I am.

Sunday a friend emailed this picture of hubby playing his new bass. That’s our new son-in-law on the drums.  :)

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

I like wool most of all.  I do not like acrylic or novelty yarns at all.  Lately I have been wanting to try some of the Rowan yarns.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?

Store them?  lol  I do have a roll that is supposed to hold my circular needles if I remember to put them back in.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I’ve been knitting since I was 8 years old. I learned from my grandma and hated it.  I am ever so thankful that she persisted in making me learn to do it right.   I am left-handed and it was torture.  I think she’d be happy now to know I actually love it now.  I’ve been knitting for a loooooong time.  I consider myself to be intermediate or a little higher.  I can be adventurous.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

Yes, I started a Kaboodle wish list, it is on my sidebar.

5. What’s your favorite scent?

During the summer I love citrus like Orange and Grapefruit.  I cannot wear the lotions from Wal-mart or Bath and Body Works, though, because I am allergic to the base they use.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

Yes. Chocolate…the darker the better.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?

I want to learn to spin, probably on a drop spindle first.  I have done alot of other crafts in the past, but knitting really is what I love the most.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

I like mostly worship music like Tim Hughes.  Yes, I do use MP3s.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?

I love chartruese greens, earthy colors, reds, sometimes purples, love brown and especially with pink or turquoise.  I can’t stand pastels without having something to make them “pop” (ie baby pink and blue and mint green together are my most unfavorite)

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

I have been married for 34 years this summer, I have 4 kids, 2 sons-in-law.  I have a grandbaby due in August! My youngest has down syndrome.  We have a cat and dog but they are not mine.  :)

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?

Sometimes I wear scarves.  I would love to wear a shawl but haven’t ever finished one.  I would wear mittens if I had them.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Socks!

13. What are you knitting right now?

Socks and baby hats.  We don’t know what the baby is so I’m knitting for both boy and girl.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?

Most of the time.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

I prefer circular needles although I will use straights on occasion.  Addis are my favorite.  I would love to try Hiya Hiyas, have heard a lot about them.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?

Both.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?

You don’t even want to know.  Old.

18. What is your favorite holiday?

I’ve never really had a favorite but I guess I’d probably say Christmas.

19. Is there anything that you collect?

Teapots, Mary Engelbreit-style.  My kitchen is mostly red and yellow and kind of cherry-themed.  Love retro.  Also….sheep!

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

I have Interweave Knits and I almost always buy Simply Knitting especially when they have fun gifts.  Right now I don’t have a book I’m dying to get other than some that are out of print.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?

I love to learn new things all the time.  I haven’t learned a lot of cast-ons and have thought that is something I’d like to work on.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?

I wear size 6 socks.  8.5″ circumference and 9″ long.

23. When is your birthday?

July 2

24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what’s your ID?
